It is with deep love and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Stephen Clark McLeod, who departed this life on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of seventy-nine. Steve’s life was marked by service, loyalty, humor, and a steadfast devotion to his family, friends, and community.
Steve was born in Deland, Florida, and later made Jacksonville his lifelong home. He graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1964. Following graduation, Steve began his career working as a service technician for Western Electric, before finding his true calling in law enforcement.
Steve proudly served with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for thirty-two years. He began his law enforcement career as a patrolman and later promoted to detective in auto theft and robbery; then appointed to a joint task force between JSO and the FBI. This work inspired the 1979 comedy film Hot Stuff, based on real-life law enforcement fencing operations. Steve was eventually promoted to Sergeant and retired honorably in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, professionalism, and dedication to public service.
Outside of work, Steve embraced life fully. When he wasn’t playing eighteen holes at Hidden Hills Golf Course, he could be found hunting or fishing with his dear friend Larry Williams. Steve was deeply committed to charitable causes, particularly those honoring the memory of his late son through memorial scholarships and Mason’s Mission. Known for his quick wit and generous spirit, Steve never missed an opportunity to deliver a well-timed remark, often accompanied by copious amounts of sarcasm and a knowing smile.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Sue McLeod. He also leaves behind his brothers-in-law, Steve (Peg) and Scott (Chris) Arnold; their children Adam (Kim), Danielle (Adam), Shannon, Davin (Katie), and Kate; along with nieces in the McLeod family Kristy (Justin) and Michelle (Mike). Steve was especially cherished by his many grand-nieces and grand-nephews, who delighted in his charisma, humor, and larger-than-life presence.
Steve was preceded in death by his son, Mason McLeod; his brother Gary; his sister Susan; and nieces Brittany and Allison.
Steve found great joy traveling the country in his RV to visit family, creating memories that will now be treasured forever. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but his laughter, lessons, and love will continue to echo through the lives he touched.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32211.
An honor guard interment ceremony will follow at Hardage–Giddens Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32225.
Friends and family are warmly invited to continue celebrating Steve’s life at a reception immediately following the interment.
