Theodore "Ted" Roosevelt Chastain, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, surrounded by the love and presence of his three children. He was 95 years old.
Born on November 9, 1929, in Thomasville, Georgia, Ted lived a life marked by integrity, service, and unconditional love. His journey took him around the world, but his heart always remained rooted in the values of family, faith, and country.
Ted dedicated his career to the United States Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant. He served with honor and distinction, dedicating much of his time to training servicemen in the critical field of air traffic control. His work ensured the safety and success of countless missions, and his legacy continues in those he mentored and inspired.
For sixty-eight wonderful years, Ted was married to the love of his life, Joyce. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering devotion. Their love story was one of true partnership—a bond that endured through time and trial, and one that remains an enduring inspiration to all who knew them. Joyce preceded Ted in death, and their reunion now brings comfort to those left behind.
Ted had a passion for life that was evident in everything he did. He loved to travel, garden, and dive deep into the history of his ancestors. His curious mind and tenacious spirit made him a joy to be around. Above all, Ted cherished his family. He was a proud and loving father to his children—Steve (Carol), Debbie (David), and Patti (Mark)—and a guiding light to his six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, kindness, and steadfast dedication to those he held dear lives on in each of them.
A celebration of Ted’s life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service in his honor at 1:00 p.m.
Ted Roosevelt Chastain leaves behind a life well lived, a family well loved, and a legacy that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
