

He graduated from Paxon Senior High School in 1956, attended the University of Florida and on June 13, 1989, he married Lena Marie Smith. He worked at Flint Ink as a Service Technician for over 30 years and was affiliated with the Baptist religion.
Thornton’s favorite thing was to have a conversation with anyone, and he never met a stranger! He loved travelling to the mountains, riding trains, Bluegrass music, working on his tractor and keeping the yard pristine and without any dandelions. He also kept meticulous records, documenting everything.
Thornton is survived by cousins, Jack Phillip Teague, Sr (Bootsie), Merle Sheffield and Judy Young; second cousins, Daniel Teague, Jack Strickland (Cathy), Jill Mashburn, Phillip Teague (Susan), Lynette Sieber (Mike), Tammy Norman (Robert), Jana Teague Milton (Wyatt) and Anthony Teague (Tami).
Preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Gray Smith and Atress Irene Teague Smith and wife, Lenn Marie Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Riverside Event Pavilion, 1373 Memorial Park Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, on May 13, 2026, at 12:00 pm with Committal Service at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, on May 13, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
