

She was born in Cummings, South Carolina on September 29,1932, and later made her home in Jacksonville, Florida, where she spent many cherished years surrounded by family, friends and her faith community.
Mrs. Murdaugh was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, James Murdaugh Sr., her son James Murdaugh Jr.; her parents Carrie and Luther Mixson; her brothers Harold Mixson (Helen), Joseph Mixson (Bertie), Douglas Mixson and her brother-in-law Trowell O'Quinn.
She is survived by her loving family: daughter Karen Jenkins (Matt), daughter-in-law Janice Campbell (Vince) grandchildren Jamie Krons (Mike Bice) and Shawn Jenkins, great grandchildren Alexis Bydlik (Tim) and Kevin Krons ; Her sister Gertrude O'Quinn, sister- in- laws: Loraine Ferguson, Frances Murdaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
Verlie was a devoted member of Woodstock Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. She enjoyed many hobbies including painting, sewing and crafting. She also found joy in the simple pleasures in life while working in her flower garden and spending time outdoors. She treasured the friendships she formed through her Women's Garden Club and Woman's Group at Woodstock Church. Her creativity, faith and kind spirit touched all who knew her.
Services will be held on Friday February 13, 2026, at the Hardage and Gidden Riverside Memorial Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Friends are invited to a viewing at 11:00 am, Followed by the service 12:00 pm. The burial will take place at 1:00 pm. A light snack and time for fellowship will be held at the funeral home from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
