Virginia Dianne Douglas

December 19, 1943May 19, 2020

Virginia “Dianne” Partridge Douglas, 76 of Jacksonville, Fl passed away May 19, 2020. She was born in Tallassee, Alabama on December 19, 1943. Dianne graduated from Paxon Sr. High School in 1961. She married Elton “Hayward” Douglas, Jr. in July after she graduated. They soon moved to Lake Butler Fl. Hayward worked for the railroad Dianne worked for the phone company. Later he began to farm their land and together they worked hard and made a go of it. When they began to have children, Denise in 1964 and Dwayne in 1969 Dianne stayed home and enjoyed being a wife and mother. She canned vegetables they grew, made jelly and jam. She loved to sew and made most of her daughter’s clothes. She often said that those were the happiest times in her life. But in life things change and after 16 years of marriage they divorced but remained good friends and parents. He even moved in with her when he developed cancer a year before he died, she took care of him until his passing in December 1996.

In 1976 when she found herself on her own and as a single parent, she moved back to Jacksonville and Orange Park she took the Civil Service Exam, passed it and accepted a position with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. She worked in the Budget Office. She retired in 2007 as an Administrative Assistant after 28 years of service. She thoroughly enjoyed her career and the people she worked with. She only retired then to stay home and take care of and be with her mother, Mary Partridge who was having health problems. Dianne said she never regretted retiring early to be with her mother, that those were precious times spent together. When her mother passed in 2009 she soon found herself alone and at just the right time her church, Hart Haven Baptist Church asked if she would be interested in a part time job at the church helping to keep the books and serve as the church secretary. Of course, she was happy to say she would, since she was never one to sit idle, she had to be busy. She threw herself into that job and soon she was helping to do everything from answering the phone to paying the bills, doing payroll and taxes to the budget and overseeing maintenance companies. You name it she could do it and usually did. She was still employed with the church when she passed.

Dianne enjoyed gardening, she was avid reader and she always had a sudoku book nearby. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren the most. Family was the most important thing in her life. She put family above all else. She truly was the family Matriarch she took care of everyone in one way or another and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
