With both sadness for our loss and gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of our mother, Virginia “Ginger” Lee (Butler) Hickox, on September 25, 2026. In the quiet, early morning hours, angels gently and lovingly escorted her home.
Ginger was born to Alvin and Jeannette Butler in Jacksonville, Florida on February 18, 1948. She graduated from Ribault High School in 1966, and shortly thereafter married Travis Hickox. She and Travis were married for 58 years and had two daughters, Lisa (Hickox) Piotrowski and Tracey Hickox.
Ginger was a selfless, loyal, devoted wife and mother for the entirety of her adult life. She took great pride in her role as matriarch; her caretaking, Southern cooking, and love for her family were unsurpassed. She was a force - private, protective, steady, and fierce - who wore the title of ‘mother’ like a quiet badge of honor.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Jeannette Butler, one brother, Alvin “David” Butler, Jr., and her late husband, Travis Hickox. She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa (Hickox) Piotrowski and Tracey Hickox; grandchildren, Peyton Piotrowski (Jonathan Sornig), Logan Hickox, Lola Hickox, and Kennedy Piotrowski; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Nova Sornig; Sisters, Judy Allen and Jeannette Bryant; and brother, Donald Butler.
Private, graveside services will be arranged by Ginger’s daughters.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you honor her memory in a way that would have meant the most to her: by loving your family well, investing in your children, and treasuring the time you share together.
We know our Mom is lighting up heaven and our Dad is mischievously grinning with happiness. They are eternally reunited in love.
