February 15, 1927January 9, 2019

Walter Roper ‘Joe’ Davis, 91, of Callahan, passed away peacefully in his sleep January 9 in Jacksonville. He was a proud Veteran of the US Navy and was proud to say he served on the USS Shangi La, “The Big One!” After serving his country he worked faithfully for 40 years and retired from Ryder Truck Lines. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing and aggravating people in a good way! If he aggravated you, he liked you! He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah DiMaria Davis; and his grandson Jason R. ‘Gump’ Davis.

He is survived by his sons Robert (Patty) Davis and William (Jackie) Davis; granddaughters Jennifer Davis, Miranda (Dane) Conway and Jessica Davis; great-granddaughters Lilah and Ella Conway; brother Jack Davis; sister Martha Hobbs Whitman; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, January 15 at Buford Grove Baptist Church in Hilliard. The family received friends prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

Arrangements entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park, Jacksonville, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville FL 32205.
