Walter Raymond Steele

Raymond was born on April 2, 1958 in Granite City, Illinois to the late Henry and Ada Steele. He worked for the city of St. Marys, Georgia for 17 years as an heavy equipment operator. His specialty was operating an excavator and hauling lowboy trailers. He later moved on to working in construction and commercial semi truck driving. Raymond enjoyed playing poker, watching sports, old westerns and an ice-cold Budweiser. He was a hard worker and a great provider to his family. He stayed a devoted loving husband to his late wife, his "Punkin", Ladonna Steele for 24 years after her passing in July of 2000. Raymond would tell you that his biggest achievement was being a family man. Family meant everything to him, and he took pride in being a great husband, father and Papa. His unconditional love for his late wife, children and grandchildren was his main source of happiness and motivation.

Raymond is preceded in death by his wife, Ladonna Steele, Parents; Henry and Ada Steele, Brothers; William Steele, Eddie "Buddy" Steele, Paul "Pee Wee" Steele, and Sister; Helen Hyman. Mother in Law; Barbara "Bobbie" Mixon.

Raymond leaves behind his son; Kevin Steele, and daughter; Cassie Steele-Shaw and future son in law, Ryan Wood. Grandchildren; Jacob, Brooke, Kevin, Lily and Kane. Sisters; Gloria Frey, Bianca Winter, Patricia Roush, Jeanie Baker, Maxine Baker; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A funeral service for Walter will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
