Born on August 26, 1960, in Fernandina Beach, Florida, David was the beloved son of the late Roxye Parker Jewell and David Cook. He was later adopted by the late Willard Gunter Sr. and his wife, who helped raise him into the kind, passionate, and hardworking man we all knew and loved.
David shared 46 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Sharon Gunter. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and unforgettable memories. He was a proud father to David Gunter of Macclenny, FL, and Stacey Wallace (Joseph) of Glen St. Mary, FL. His greatest joy came from being “Pappy” to his cherished grandchildren — Chayse Card, Brayden Wallace, and Ashlyn Gunter — and great-grandson, Casey Carter, all of Glen St. Mary, FL.
He is also survived by his loving sister, Shelia Christ of Jacksonville, FL, and a special niece, Carrie Shiver, with whom he shared a deep and meaningful bond. David treasured the relationships he had with his extended family and always made time to connect, laugh, and reminisce.
A true Florida soul, David loved the outdoors, especially being on the water — boating, relaxing, and soaking in the sunshine. He had a lifelong passion for classic cars and was a proud fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd, always turning up the music and singing along with heart. Above all, he loved his family deeply and made it known every day.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Woman's Club of Macclenny (144 South 5th Street, Macclenny, FL) at 4:00 p.m. All family and friends are welcome to join and the family kindly requests that guests dress casually — just as he would have wanted. No suits, no ties — just comfort, laughter, and love, in true David Gunter style.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Haven Hospice of Palatka for the compassionate care they provided during David’s final days.
David’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him — through every shared laugh, favorite song, and sunset on the water.
