William Arlie Brett Sr, 90 – peacefully passed away and caught the train to Glory on November 27, 2013 following a battle with lung cancer. He was born in Washington County, GA on September 16, 1923 to Clyde and Delma Brett, and was raised by his loving grandparents Mary and Summerfield Tucker Dixon. He lived and worked on the family farm until joining the Navy in 1942. He honorably served his country during WWII and continued for 23 years. The Navy took this young farm boy all over the world before retiring in 1964 as a Chief Electrician’s Mate. He was a man of “The Greatest Generation” and spent his entire life working hard, loving and providing for his family. Mr. Brett was a faithful member of the Adel United Methodist Church., Adel, GA. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Sue G. Brett; sons Kenny Brett, Jimmy Barronton, Paul Edge; and grandsons Lil’ Johnny Brett and Kyle Barronton. He is survived by sons Billy Brett (Maggie), Johnny Brett (Zee), Eddie Brett (Sherrie); daughters Janet Brett, Mona Steedley (Ron), and Susan Barronton Salemi, 15 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Affectionately called “Daddy” and “Paw-Paw” by his children and grandchildren, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jax. FL 32205, where a public visitation will be held, Tuesday Dec 3, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral service will follow at Town and Country on Wed. Dec 4 at 1:00 PM, with interment following at Riverside Memorial Park, Reverend John Stephens officiating.
