March 9, 1946 – July 7, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William Lee “Lee-Bo” McElroy, who entered into eternal rest on July 7, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born on March 9, 1946, in Decatur, Georgia, Lee lived a life defined by honor, integrity, unwavering dedication, and love for his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years before beginning a distinguished career with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer. Through hard work, leadership, and commitment, he earned the rank of Sergeant, serving his community faithfully for 30 years before retiring. His service was more than a career—it was a reflection of the character he carried throughout his life.
Above all else, Lee cherished his family. He was the beloved husband of Linda J. McElroy, and a devoted father to Michelle Puckett, Crystal McElroy, and stepfather to Shannon Gibbs, Troy Bloodworth, and Todd Bloodworth. His greatest pride was being “Grand-daddy/Papa” to his eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He spoke of them often, celebrated their accomplishments, and loved each of them beyond measure. They were truly the light of his life.
Lee was the kind of man people naturally turned to for wisdom and guidance. Whether you needed advice, encouragement, or simply someone to listen, he was always there with a steady presence and an open heart. He believed in showing up for the people he loved, and that quiet reliability became one of his greatest legacies.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. A lifelong sports fan, Lee rarely missed cheering on his beloved Florida Gators. He never met a dessert he didn’t like, proudly satisfying his well-known sweet tooth whenever he could. His Mustang wasn’t just a car—it was his pride and joy, cared for with the same attention and pride he gave to everything important in his life.
Those who knew Lee will smile remembering his daily routines. He enjoyed starting each morning at the gym, followed by his famous trips to the grocery store—every single day, without fail. He loved gathering with family and friends for cookouts, oysters, and good conversation. His dry sense of humor could brighten any room, and after delivering one of his perfectly timed sarcastic remarks, he would flash that unforgettable wink that let everyone know he was just having fun.
Lee leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will forever be treasured by his family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, strength, and unwavering love. While our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the years we shared with him, the lessons he taught us, and the example he set of living with honor, humility, and devotion to those you love.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the family he adored, the lives he impacted through his service, and the countless stories that will continue to be shared for generations to come. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in our hearts.
