Zoraida Ratac Dacanay

Tami was born in the Philippines, in the Province of Laguna, in the Municipality of Kalayaan on November 20, 1943 and was one of 9 children. Blessed with an ability to play piano by ear, at age 16 she won a Philippines nationally televised talent contest. Throughout her life even up to the week before passing, she blessed everyone with her piano playing ability, which will be missed by so many.

She graduated with her Nursing degree from The Family Clinic School of Nursing in Manila, Philippines. She emigrated to Canada in 1967 to pursue nursing opportunities and eventually where she would meet her future husband.

On August 2, 1969, Tami married Ernesto G. Dacanay in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Shortly after marriage, they would move to the United States and in 1974 made Jacksonville, Florida their permanent home.

Her whole life and career was dedicated to caring for others as a Registered Nurse for 40 years, with 35 years tenure at Methodist Hospital/Shands Hospital before retiring.

She was very religious, and was a dedicated parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the Filipino prayer group Banal na Pag-aaral where she further strengthened her faith.

Tami is predeceased by her husband Ernie, and survived by her 3 children, their spouses, and 5 grandchildren. Son Michael (51) & spouse Judy Velez (49). Daughter Melissa (46) & spouse Rusty Caslib (50), & grandchildren Sydney (19), Callen (14), & Mara (11). Daughter Melanie (44) & spouse Charles Canales (43), & grandchildren Sophia (13) and Kai (8). She also had two grand pets Zoey and Lu.

A visitation for Zoraida will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Riverside Event Pavilion, 1373 Memorial Park Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A celebration of life will occur Friday, April 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 1649 Kingsley Ave, Orange Park, FL 32073. A committal will occur Friday, April 25, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Hardage- Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
