He was born April 22, 1951, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Jesse “Babe” and Myrtle Davis Hunnell.
Monty was a coal miner from Emerald Coal Mine, where he retired in 2007. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local #2258.
He was a member and trustee at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Ruff Creek.
Monty loved to fish, hunt deer, turkey, and was a member of the Waynesburg Beagle Club.
He also coached the Mather Minors baseball and loved watching school plays.
On June 7, 1997, he married Lois Martin Hunnell, who survives.
Also surviving are Matthew (Osmar Marrero) Hunnell of Kissimmee, FL, Nathan (Gaby) Hunnell of Scottsdale, AZ, Nicole Love (Jeremy) Davis of Jefferson; five grandchildren, Victoria Hunnell, Adelyn Hunnell, Jesse Hunnell, Dannika White, and Paxton Davis.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 2 to 8 pm in the Behm Funeral Homes, 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 11:00 am with Pastor Keith Rishell, officiating. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville.
