Erna Jane Ross

Erna “Jane” Ross (99) was born on February 13, 1927, in Brownsville, PA. Jane passed away peacefully at home on August 16th. She was the second daughter of Rev. Larry C. Jewell and Mary King Jewell. Jane was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church and the Jefferson Senior Citizens. She was known as a Sunday school teacher to both children and adults and a lay speaker. Jane was most proud of her work with the United Methodist Women and was a past president of the Western District United Methodist Women. She was a home maker and mother of three daughters. Jane loved to sew, sing, garden, cook, bird watch and is known in the area for the Swap Shop that she and Ray had for many years.

Jane was most proud of the book she wrote and published at age 90: “Hell Bent….plucked as a brand from the burning”. This book was a collection of her life as the daughter of a United Methodist pastor and describes the life in the local area over the last 100 years.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Ray W. Ross and a daughter, Patricia Marie Brennan. Remaining are one brother, Douglas Jewell and his wife Amy of Venice, FL. Margaret (Peggy) Harmon of Celina, TX and Judith D. Hamlin of Jefferson, PA. There are two grandchildren, Ash Harmon and April Childers as well as eight great grandchildren and two nieces and their families. The family would like to thank our neighbor and friend, Rose Hugney and all the healthcare and hospice workers who helped care for Jane these final years.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 pm, Friday, August 21, 2026, in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 7:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Carroll officiating. Interment will be private in Garards Fort Cemetery, Garards Fort. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Garard’s Fort Cemetery at P.O.
