Marion Grace Walker

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Grace Walker, who died peacefully at her home in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania, on July 18, 2026, at the age of 100. Marion lived a remarkable century defined by her devotion to family, generosity, and a lifelong love of gardening, learning, and serving others.

Marion was born on January 24, 1926, in Marathon, New York, to Clyde and Edna Dietrich. Her family moved to Hallstead, Pennsylvania, where she spent her teenage years and graduated from high school. She was one of five children, sharing her childhood with her older sister, Kay, and younger siblings Donald, Robert, and Dorothy.

After graduating from high school, Marion worked as a receptionist at a Pennsylvania foundry. One day, a handsome and charismatic castings salesman named Robert W. 'Bob' Walker walked through the door and asked her out. Unsure what to do, Marion sought the advice of her grandmother who simply told her, 'Go on the date!' She did, and just a few months later they were married. Their marriage lasted 54 years and became the foundation of a beautiful life together.

Marion devoted herself to raising her family and creating a warm home. She taught herself to sew, making many of her own clothes as well as clothing for her children. Bob kept her sewing machines in perfect working order, and together they made a wonderful team.

Gardening was another of Marion's lifelong passions. Every summer she tended a large vegetable garden and flower gardens and was an active member of the local garden club. At their home in Bernardsville, New Jersey, she planted hundreds of daffodil bulbs along the steep bank in front of the house. Each spring, when they burst into bloom, Bob affectionately called them her 'smiling faces.'

After forty years in Bernardsville, Marion and Bob built a new home in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania, near their eldest daughter, Susan. During her twenty-eight years in Carmichaels, Marion became an active member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, the Town and Country Garden Club, and the Senior Center, where she enjoyed gathering with friends each Wednesday.

Marion never had idle hands. She lovingly crocheted hundreds of hats for premature babies and quilted many baby blankets, donating them to area hospitals. And her homemade lemon meringue pie was a staple at every church function.

Marion is survived by her daughters, Susan Swala (Frank), Patricia Lloyd (Wayne Peterson), and Sandy Willey (Frank); her son, Richard Walker; her grandchildren, Lisa Stevens Harbour (Matt Harbour), Robert Walker (Kari), Stacy Walker (Paul Narkavich), Kaitlin Swala (Andrea Schuitema), Megan Dial (Jon), Daniel Willey (Ali), and Zachary Willey; her great-grandchildren, Jonah Stevens, Jacy Stevens, and Tyler Walker; as well as many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert W. Walker, and by her siblings.

Marion was known for her quiet strength, gentle spirit, and generous heart. She found joy in simple pleasures and time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of life memorial will be held on August 15, 2026, from 1 -3 pm at the Jefferson Community Center.
