Grandpa you will always be in our mines and our hearts we really miss you alot i remember the good times when i always woke up you always said good morning bud and you always used to say Mr.El-Helbawi heavy on the mister thanks for being the best grandfather that i will always love and remember for my entire life and i always remember you playing solitaire you were good at that and i remember we played go fish when i was six years old and i always loved how you smile you are the best grandfather a kid could ever want I love you grandpa and you will always be with us.

My great-uncle Delwyn was more like a father to my mom, and, frankly, more like a grandfather to me. Though his passing is sad, I would rather take this time to celebrate his life. Aunt Dorothy, I wrote a poem and I hope you enjoy it. When writing this, I imagined what it must have been like when he left for Korea after serving in WW II. As a two war veteran myself, there are far too many parallels in our lives to be a coincidence. I feel honored to have had him as a friend and mentor for so many years. I’m so sorry I couldn’t make the funeral, but want you to know that I have been thinking about you this week, and as always, you are in my prayers.   

“Six o’clock in the morning, 
and the rain is falling down,
I got the call, so I’ll be leaving, 
to defend freedom’s plight on another’s ground.

And I had a dream late last night, 
you were lying next to me under a cool moonlight,
And I whispered to you, wake up, darling,
And when I did you turned and said, “yes?”
And with a tear in your eye you said 
“I knew this day would come, darling, don’t go, please don’t go”

Grandpa,

You were a strong man with a kind heart, who truly loved his whole family.  I remember all the times you and Grandma babysat us as kids and I remember how you’d both laugh at the silly things I would say.  Do you remember how Corey was mouth fighting?  You loved to tease us and you had a great laugh.  Grandpa, I want you to know I feel blessed that you were part of many happy memories from my childhood.  

I know you were also a man who worked hard in life and enjoyed it.  You were skilled at fixing or building almost anything.  I clearly remember when you designed and everyone helped build the shed up north.  As a kid, it seemed to me to be as big as a house and I’d never witnessed anyone build anything that big.  I was so impressed.  I always loved the tool box you built for Chris, even though I thought it was an Alf Carrier.  And to this day, the Red Barn toy box you made for us is the BEST toy box I’ve ever seen.  Just so you know Grandpa, while it was great at holding toys it made an even better spot for hide-and-go seek.  

I feel privileged that my Grandpa was a good and honest man.  I’m sorry that I can’t say goodbye in person but I know you understand.    I’ll miss you and I wish you could have met your newest great-grandchild.  Don’t worry, I’ll make sure that he or she knows that the left knee belongs to Grandpa and we’ll tease him or her when he or she turns six, I’m mean ‘sick’.

Angel Randolph (Hayes)

Uncle Delwyn, was one of the great male roll models in my life.  When my father passed away he went out of his way to let me know that if I ever need a shoulder to lean on he would be there and he always had good advice.  One lesson I learned from him was enjoy humor wherever you find it; we had just left Tom Wilson’s bachelor party, the party was held at a cabin on an island in a lake. The island had a rickety old foot-bridge you had to cross and he knew that Skip and I had a lot to drink. When we had crossed the bridge ourselves he turned to me and said “Lets watch Robin cross he’s had a lot to drink I bet he’ll fall in” now I don’t remember if Skip fell in or not I just remember to always be on the look out for a good laugh.  I think of him as a second father and a great friend.  I will always be thankful that he was part of my life.

Uncle Delwyn was a gentle and quiet man who left a big impact on all of our hearts, he will surely be missed. Love you and Aunt Dorothy!

Growing up across the street, we had so much fun. Uncle Delwyn was always teasing us girls and making us laugh.
Although he wasn't really my Uncle that's what we called him.
When we moved away I was very sad. Everyone on our street was like family. My heart always stayed there.

We will always love you grandpa rest in peace

Grandpa, you will be, and already are sincerely missed! I will always remember your brilliant blue eyes (just like mine), the smile that always looked like you were plotting something, and your deep, belly laugh in which you always smacked your knee or clapped your hands. You had an amazing sense of humor and constantly made us laugh. I can remember crawling in your lap from the time I was little until I had outgrown it and you would always say: "Honey, Grandpa loves you and is so proud of you." You were such a noble, charismatic and proud man. I have countless memories of being up north and how you taught us to "deer hunt"; which actually meant go out for ice cream and drive around looking for deer. You always made the best bonfires and would help us toast marshmallows. I love you and know that you are now sitting in your chair up north, smiling and drinking coffee with Dixie on one side of you and Taco on the other. I am assured that you have found peace, rest and happiness. I love you, and in your words, "so long".

Delwyn saiter was my grandfather but he was more like my ( Dad) I remember that times I had with him the trips upnorth,texas and many more. he was the greatest man I have ever known. I looked up to him out of all my friends he was my best man at my wedding and to show him more respect I gave my frist son his middle name Austin william knudtson and gave him two more great grandkids sarah and chase. i mored in with them when i was 15 then I got married and move away after I got divorced I moved back in with them to help out and show my respect to him and my grandmother in to share the last days with them. Always missed never for gotten.

Grandpa, you will be dearly missed! I will always remember your big smile, bright, sparkling, blue eyes and how you would always hit your knee when you laughed that deep belly laugh. When we were little we would always crawl into your lap and you would tell us how much you loved us and how proud we made you. The trips up north were amazing, and you always made the best campfires. We loved how you taught us how to "deer hunt" which really meant getting ice cream and riding in the Suburban looking for deer. You would always tell us we had to be quiet so we could "sneak up on the deer" and then laugh when we told you that was silly.  We will miss you so much but are glad you have found peace and can be with Dixie and Taco again. We love you so much and you will forever be in our hearts.

Delwyn was my grandfather but he was more of a father to me then my own. Every life lesson was tought to me by him and grandma. He tought me that family is the most important thing and to never turn your back on family. I can remeber a time that 15 people was living in their house because they would never see family out on the street. He was so loving and so giving, he loved to tease all of the women in the family I got my fair share.He loved to go upnorth and go to lake huron and feed the deer we went to sleeping bear sand dunes and taquamanon falls I will never forget all of the wonderful times we spent together. He was what a real man is we love you and miss you so much we will meet again one day.
