Don was widely regarded as the benevolent patriarch of the neighborhood. He was a great storyteller, and an attentive listener, as well. His kindness and generosity will be deeply missed.

Don will be especially missed by those of us who knew him through his active, gracious and generous membership in Sylvan Lake Lutheran congregation.  As long as he was able to do whatever needed doing, Don was there to help. His handshake and his hug were full of the warmth of his spirit.
What an easy person he was to talk with, too!  He was one of the best conversationalists I ever met.  Best of all, whatever he was told to hold in confidence he held in confidence.  I am so grateful to have known him -- as a Christian gentleman, a willing worker and a friend.

Don was a beloved member of 
Sylvan Lake Lutheran Church for many, many years.  He shared his time and talents in numerous ways, most recently serving as church treasurer.  Don has touched the hearts of many and we will deeply miss him  in our church family.

I worked with Dr. Lubbers at Beumont for a time and to say it was a wonderful experience would be an understatement.  He was a great teacher and became a good friend.  He will always have a place in my heart.

We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear sbout Don's death. Who would ever imagine that two young guys who grew up about 40 miles apart in North Dakota would meet in the inner city of Detroit. We were both attending school at Wayne State University where Linda and Sharyl met on the playgrounds in 1966. We became close friends and we will miss him greatly. He was a unique and special individual.
Our prayers go out to his family.

We were heart broken when we heard of Don's passing.  He was a friend.  We have so many happy memories of times we spent with Sharyl and Don and then with just Don.  He was such a loving father, grandfather and friend.  He was so proud of his son and daughter and his grandchildren.  Our heart goes out to the family in their sorrow.  Our life here in Michigan will never be quite the same without him.  We had our luncheon trips to Hamtramck for great food, our early morning breakfasts at Bryans and our late night discussions on everything and anything.   The word goodby comes from the shortened version for "God be with you" and so we say, "goodby Don".

Don Lubbers was such a wonderful person. I was his secretary for 25 years at Beaumont Hospital and we had such a special relationship. He was the best and I will miss him terribly

Don was a special man & brother-in-law. I could call him anytime if I needed help w/something & he did help. He will be greatly missed.

Dr. Lubbers was one of a kind, with a contagious and fabulous laugh! I am still an audiology geek and consider him to be my greatest mentor. I hope he found a "Thing" waiting for him, and he and Sharyl are cruising around right now.

What a special person!  I was lucky enough to work with him at Beaumont and will always remember his laughter and jokes!  He was such a special person.  Many children have brighter futures thanks to him.  Thanks Doctor Lubbers for being you!

I am very saddened to hear the news of Dr. Lubbers.  He was a wonderful man with a great heart.  I worked with Dr. Lubbers for several years as his secretary in Audiology at Beaumont Hospital.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My heart broke to hear the news of Dr. Lubbers passing. I have wonderful memories of working with him at Beaumont in suite 447.  He always held a special place in my heart.  Sending much love and peace to his family at this time.
