Bloomfield Hills – Helen Georgoulias, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, held in the arms of her beloved daughters, Effie (William) Steele and Katina (Joseph) Daher. She left us after a short illness, surrounded by her family, comfort and love.
Helen was born in Pente Orea, a village near Delphi in Greece, to Nicholas and Efthemia Mamarelis. As a survivor of the Italian and German occupations of Greece during WWII and near starvation, she was a true fighter. She led her life with strength as she raised her family in a strange country and without the support of her family near her. She was disciplined in exercise, healthy diet and lifestyle. She was magic in the kitchen and taught all of us how to make the best pastitsio, moussaka, spanakopita, keftedes, yemista and many other wonderful dishes with patience, no matter how many hours it took.
Helen was a devoted mother to her girls, and a proud and loving grandmother to Stephanie (Nicholas Burger) Daher and Olivia (Nicholas Petrusha) Steele, who she adored, and who cherished their Yiayia!
In the last few years, Helen was overjoyed with the arrival of her great grandchildren, Simone and Lucas Burger. She was the first to say yes to trips to Chicago to celebrate them for birthdays and baptisms!
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Constantine “Dino” Georgoulias on July 16th, 2019, and her three siblings in Greece, Constantinos, Panagiotis and Loula.
We will never forget the love she brought to our lives.
Donations may be sent to St. John Greek Orthodox Church, 11455 Metro Pkwy, Sterling Heights, MI 48312.
