Happy fathers day Dad. I miss you so much and just wish I could have one last talk with you. Jeff and I talk about you all the time. We laugh over all the funny things. To this day he calls you "Jimmy mom Mary Gertrude!! He now calls me Kathleen!!!

Well Dad its been 10 years and not a day goes by that I don't think of you. All the wonderful talks we had and the closeness Jeff shared with you are treasures. I know you're up in heaven taking charge of everything!! Jeff is 43 now and I see him being a man you would be proud of. He most certainly benefitted from the fruits of your discussions. He is a absolutely wonderful husband, father and son. Isaac is 11 and Jordan 7 and when their in trouble and being punished he always say's "life isn't a bowl full of cherries" which you always said to him. He's raising the boys to be good honorable young men and in a Christian home. We all miss you Dad but you're much better off where you are!! I love you so much!

Dad I miss you so much. Jeff and I talk about you all the time. We laugh at some of the things we talked about when sitting on the front porch. You were a wonderful father and taught Jeff so much about life and the best way to get through it. You gave us our faith which alone is the biggest gift. I sure wish you could see Isaac and Jordan. Jeff is raising them with Christianity at the top! Hope to see you one day.


Dad, I miss you so very much and wish I could just have one more morning of sitting on the porch with you. I know you're in heaven and peaceful because sadness is for the living. Give my two moms a hug and give Glenn a kiss from me. Fitting that its Resurrection day on the anniversary of your death!!! Love Kathleen!!

Sorry, I forgot to say that the picture is of Isaac and Jordan. They are Jeff's little boys and you would love them!! Jeff is an exceptional husband and father!! You would be so proud!!

Sure do miss you Dad. I remember all the times we sat on the porch drinking coffee with you having a pipe and me a cigarette. I felt so blessed to have spent so much time with you. Living in Saudi gave me the chance to come home every holiday and summers. The time we spent in Gatlinburg are some of my fondest memories. Say hello to Glenn for me and let him know how much I miss him. I love you Dad!!!

Happy Birthday Dad. I spent the morning in the Adoration Chapel at my parish because I know that Adoration was so very important to you and mom. I miss you but am happy that you're in Heaven as that's what you lived your life for. You were am awesome dad to me and a very special grandfather to Jeff.  I strive to be more like you in my faith and say the Rosary for our family each day to carry on what you and mom did each day. Save a spot for me as we have much to catch up on!!!!

Uncle Jim, I have such good memories of younger days spending time with you and your family.  We always had such fun and you always made me feel special and loved. May you rest in Eternal Peace.

Dear Dad,

As I drive home after spending the last couple days with you, I'm thinking about your life and what you've meant to me.  I wipe the tears – not shed for you, but for me as I think about how much I'll miss you.

You have lived an extraordinary life, Dad.  You would say things like, “You have to have alligator skin” or “You've gotta' toughen up kid” and my favorite, “You come into this world alone, and you go out alone”.  Yet, you could glide across a dance floor like Fred Astaire and be completely vulnerable in your poetry – some of the most beautiful writings I've read.  I believe this is a reflection of who you had to be and who you were.

I remember the first spanking you ever gave me.  We were having a party and you told me not to touch any of the food until after the guests arrived.  I don't recall the very wise brother or sister who told me it was ok to have a chip or two…… but just as I put one in my mouth you walked into the kitchen.  You gave me a swift spanking for being disobedient.  I got you back though - I was so scared I peed in my pants.  I think I was 4 or 5.

I remember wondering why my friends had so much freedom and why they didn't get into trouble like I did.  I used to think you were mean and then at some point in my life I realized that you were holding your kids to a different standard.  This “standard” has become my character and it's the essence of who I am today.  As I look at our prospective leaders or current government officials, I use you as my measuring stick.  Are they of strong character, have impeccable integrity, genuine, and do they live their faith?  You've set the bar so high – no one ever measures up. 

I recall a conversation we had many years ago about the time I was getting ready to marry Mark.  You told me that it was important for you, as a parent, to love your children unconditionally but it was also important to respect them.  You said that as we got out on our own, you would let your children live their own lives.  You had given us all you could and now you would be respectful of who we were and not interfere in our lives.  I remember once mom asked me when we were going to have children and you said, “Mary, that is none of your business.”  It was at that moment that I realized what you meant in our conversation years prior.  Thank you for always being there if I needed you and for your belief and trust in me Dad.

You taught me that any challenge, even those that seem insurmountable, can be overcome as long as you trust that God is walking with you. Of all the things I've learned from you, this is the most important.  A strong faith, the kind of foundation you build your life upon, isn't an attribute.  It is who you are.  Thanks, Dad, for living your faith and being such a profound example.

In our last conversation you were in such a talkative mood (unusual from the typical 2-4 minutes I grew accustomed to).  You told me you had been appointed to stand at the gates of Heaven alongside Apostle Peter and that I'd better straighten up or I might have a hard time “getting in”.  I can't think of a better place for you to spend eternity – alongside Peter! 

So, thanks Dad, for everything you were and all that you helped me become.  Until we meet again, you'll live in my heart.

Dear James,

I sure do miss you, buddy.  9:30 mass is very different now that you've been elevated to a higher calling though I feel confident you are there in spirit.

I will always be grateful for that day in church as you comforted me when I was feeling blue, missing my own precious father.  You treated me as a father would when reaching out to a daughter, with tenderness, kindness and sincerity.

I'll remember you over the last month of not feeling well - still sweet and kind, so patient and brave.

Thank you for the privilege of allowing me to help serve you these years.  I thank our dear Father in heaven for this priceless friendship bestowed upon me.

God bless you forever and ever my friend and thank you with all my heart.

Dad, you were such a Testament to how a Father should be and how a Christian should act. I always considered you my friend as much as my Dad and I thank you for all the support, wisdom and love you gave me throughout my life. I have such wonderful memories of all the time we had together and all the jokes I would pull on you and even when I maybe went a little too far you will still end up laughing. People who saw us together always said I had your smile and I am so grateful that I do as every time I smile I will think of you. You were such a great Father and one thing that I will continue to due daily in your honor is to pray the Rosary each day as I know you did that for your family many times a day. I love you and will miss you more then I can even begin to say but I know you are peaceful and happy and a daughter could not ask for more than that.

I love you so much and have always appreciated the time you took to explain the word of God to me. I will always cherish the memories of our times together, sitting on the porch telling me your life stories, and how you always had patience with such a young boy. You taught me to never give up, whenever I have hard days I always remember your story of selling apples during the great depression and realize it could always be much worse. All I can say is I love you and will always remember your great smile, and I look forward to seeing you again in Heaven. Thank you for being the greatest grandfather any grandson could ever ask for.

Dear Dad,
While I write this message to you, I am listening to the song by U2-"In The Name Of Love" which is very fitting since that was always the committed focus in your life. You never wavered in your undying love for the Good Lord Jesus Christ and always modeled your life completely around that. Your love for family, friends, and those in need, was never in doubt, despite the many obstacles you faced. You simply never gave up, regardless of the odds, and for that I will always love, respect, and cherish my relationship with you. Thank you so much for all that but mostly for your example of faith in God, truly the greatest gift that you could have ever given me!!! I will always be honored to be your Son and will never forget how wonderful of a Father you always were and will continue to be. May the Good Lord bless your soul and welcome you with open arms into His Kingdom. Have fun up there Dad, it's what you always wanted above all.
