The daughter of Jerrold A. Frost and Elizabeth Christiansen, Janet was born in 1931 in Chicago, spent her childhood years on Long Island, New York and her teen years in the Birmingham, Michigan area. She attended Kingswood School Cranbrook, refining her skills as a pianist. After graduation in 1949 she attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where her joie de vivre attracted Mark Jung. After their wedding on May 27, 1952 at Christ Church Cranbrook, they began their married life in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. It was here that their children Jerry and Cindy were born. In 1955, the family returned to the Birmingham area where Kurt and Karen were born.
In her 30s, Janet discovered sailing and passed along her newfound passion to Mark and their children. Whether racing at Orchard Lake or cruising on some part of the Great Lakes or Caribbean, Janet seemed to be most at home when at the helm of a sailboat.
While Janet’s first priority was always family, she volunteered her services as a braillist to Readings for the Blind, taught Great Books for a number of years and spent decades as a Sunday school teacher at Redeemer Lutheran Church. As her “chicks” began leaving the nest she became a part-time medical office assistant.
Two untimely deaths in the 1980s forever changed Janet's life. The first was the passing of her sister Judy in 1985, the second was that of her husband Mark in 1988. Janet was fortunate enough to find love again and married Paul Victor in 1991, a marriage that included many world travels and the welcoming of many grandchildren and lasted until Paul’s death in 2014.
Janet is remembered with love and gratitude by her children Jerry Jung (Eve), Cynthia Barto, Kurt Jung (Maura), and Karen Pridmore (Peter); grandchildren Jacob Jung (Ai), Claire Trainor (Andrew), Julie Rasmussen (Alec), Laura Geiger (Christopher), Sara Pridmore, Laura Rosenblum (Daniel); and great-grandchildren Emma, Ruma, Thatcher, and Alistair; her brother Jerry Frost (Nancy), nephews Jay (April), Chris, Todd and Tim (Margo); and the many to whom she served as a stand-in mother and grandmother, including but by no means limited to Kim Wiggins (Mike) and their children Grayson and Vivian; Sally Victor and her daughter Sarah, Faith Ramsey (Ryan) and their child Ryan, and Mary Jung.
A celebration of Janet’s life will take place on Friday September 8th at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Birmingham, MI. Visitation at 10:00am, service at 11:00am followed by an off-site reception for all family and friends.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please remember Janet by brightening the lives of those you encounter with a smile, kind words and a generous spirit.
