OBITUARY

Jemima Rothermel

August 31, 1929July 31, 2020

Jemima Rothermel (Bell), age 90, of Waterford, Michigan passed away Friday July 31, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. Jemima was born the daughter of Andrew and Dolina (James) Bell on August 31, 1929. She graduated from Dearborn Fordson High School, class of 1947 and worked as a secretary for Detroit Edison. Jemima married Thomas Edward Rothermel on January 13, 1962 in Detroit. She and Thomas lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and Columbia, South Carolina before moving back to Michigan in 1966. Jemima raised her family in Plymouth and later Northville. She was a very active parent especially with band boosters. She was also a tremendous supporter of the Michigan Scottish Pipes and Drums Band and enjoyed attending Highland Games, all in line with the Scottish heritage she was so proud of. In 1990, Jemima retired to Hilton Head with her husband Thomas. Following Thomas’s passing in 2001, she moved back to Michigan in 2007. Jemima is survived by her children Thomas (Tara), Gerald (Mary), Marianne (Jonathan) Snow, and Russell; and grandchildren Bailey, Eddie, and Harrison. Jemima is preceded in death by her husband Thomas and her siblings Jeane (Bell) Plomer and Andrew Bell. Jemima’s family would like to invite all to a memorial gathering in her honor on Thursday August 6th, 2020 from 1-4pm at Family Funeral Care, located at 2904 Orchard Lake Rd in Keego Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jemima’s honor online at www.cancer.org.

Dear Jon, Marianne and Harry. We are so sorry for the loss of Mima. We will miss visiting with her when we are in Michigan. We will always appreciate what a good friend she was to my Mom Burma. They always had such a great time shopping and so very proud of their purchases. Our love to you all.

As one of three mothers who shared the responsibility of keeping the shenanigans of the neighborhood kids to a survivable level, I will always think of her kindness, hospitality, and strength as an integral part of my childhood. Sending love and light to Tom, Jerry, Marianne, and "Rusty."
