On September 10, 1957, John Henry Ruen III was born to his father John H. Ruen Jr. (deceased) and his mother DeLoris Boyd Ruen in Detroit, Michigan. On September 26, 2026, he left his earthly body behind. For 49 years, John was married to his wife Judy, who has truly been the love of his life. John was survived by his devoted daughter Robin Coy (Brandon) and his only son John Henry Ruen IV. If his wife and children brought him a lifetime of love, his truest joy came from his three grandsons Charlie, Dylan and Max Psenka, and his only granddaughter Harper Ruen. John was the oldest of five children and will be missed by his brother Dennis, his sisters Nancy, Kristen, and Kimberlee, and their respective spouses, children and grandchildren.
Those who knew John, know what a big personality, hilarious sense of humor, and generous heart he had. Throughout his life, he was always the guy with the coolest car, the most killer tunes, and the absolute best suggestions for carry-out or lunch spots. He loved summers on the lake whether he was towing a skier, behind the boat himself, or finding wind on a sailboat. In the winter, he was sure to hit the slopes with the sickest skis where he spent even his later years putting the kiddos to shame.
Though he got a kick out of showing off from time to time, in true generous John Ruen fashion, he mostly loved sharing the things that brought him joy with others. He was the most excited when he could share the activities he loved with his family, newbies and children. He was never in a classroom, but John was a natural teacher. There are countless people in his community that can thank John for teaching them to ski in the water or in the snow. Though he wasn’t always known for his patience in his daily life, somehow, with a new skier, no matter how many times they fell, he was ready to help them laugh at themselves, and go again.
For a guy that loved fun, the best of life was brought to him by his grandchildren. Cheering them on the sidelines or tossing the ball in the backyard, he remained their steady champion, reserving as much energy for his grandchildren as he did for his beloved Michigan State Spartans. Being “Poppa” to his fantastic four brought him fulfillment that led him to his later-in life career as a “transportation specialist”. The kids on his route knew their bus driver as “Gus” who had a ready smile and was full of “dad jokes”. For a guy that loved driving fast cars, and fast boats in his youth, he appreciated his new responsibility for his “kids” and he enjoyed being welcomed into this new family of drivers.
John H. Ruen III will be tremendously missed by all who knew him, but most especially by his number one, his wife Judy. Friends and family will join Judy to gather at the home of their daughter and son-in law at 216 Wendy Lane, Bloomfield, MI 48302 on Saturday October 24, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00 with memories to be shared at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor John’s memory are invited to make a donation to benefit his four beloved grandchildren. Contributions may be made by check and will be set aside for their future. These gifts will serve as a lasting tribute to John’s love for his family and the legacy he leaves behind.
