Nicole Artanowicz, 52, of Berkley, Michigan, peacefully coasted over the finish line on the evening of Sunday, March 28, 2021. She battled Leiomyosarcoma (LMS), a very rare form of soft-tissue sarcoma cancer, for 6-1/2 years with both tenacity and style.
She was born in Warren, Michigan on July 13, 1968. Nicole graduated from Downey High School in Downey, California, and received her Bachelors in English from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, where she also worked in the OU Kresge Library for 20 years.
Nicole was married to Steve Baker on October 8, 2005 after they became a power couple in 1997. Nicole and Steve had 24 years of awesome together. She is survived by her husband Steve, their two oddball, loving dogs Lola and Ollie, her mother Sandra Romano and stepfather Luis Romano, and amazing friends all across the country.
As you are able, please draw something in a notebook or journal, on construction paper, etc. while listening to music by The Walkmen and/or Fleet Foxes for Nicole. Steve figures that Nicole would roll her eyes a bit at this idea but deep down she’d think it’s pretty awesome.
An online celebration service was held on Sunday, April 25, at 1 PM.

Here's to celebrating Nicole's amazing life through the words of her friends and the music she loved.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to support any of these terrific organizations in her memory. Especially during her long dance with LMS cancer, these folks meant so much to Nicole. Thank you.
