Our dear, beloved Rosie passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, with Frank Sinatra playing in the background, and her nurse, Rachel, holding her hand. She had been tenderly cared for by doctors, nurses, and staff at Henry Ford Hospital West Bloomfield.
Rosemary Adeline Laffrey was born on January 10, 1917, to Frederick E. and Mabelle G. Laffrey in Detroit, Michigan. "Rosebud", the baby of the family, and her two sisters, Francis and Eleanor, joined their parents in many adventures around Cass Lake. Growing up during the Great Depression did not prevent her from having fun and learning important life lessons and values. In 1934, Rosemary graduated from Roosevelt School. Soon thereafter, she trained as a professional hairdresser and worked at several Pontiac and Keego Harbor beauty shops.
After a brief marriage and the birth of her first son Anthony Hutchinson, Rosemary met and married Chet Hunt on May 23, 1955. Rosemary left behind a daughter, Gwen, a son Fred (Shawn), four grandchildren: Stacey, Beth (Scott), and their children Madeline Rose and Teagan, George and Christopher, and many close friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her sisters, her husband, Chet, and her son, Tony.
After many years in the beauty business, and the death of her husband, Chet, Rosie worked in the fast food industry and began a 14-year-stint at Pontiac's original McDonald's on Perry Street. Later, when the opportunity to be her own boss presented itself, Rosemary and fellow OCBC member, Mary Kincaid, opened K&H Coney (currently Omega Grub Station) on Telegraph. Six years later, the partners received an unexpected phone call, inquiring if the business was for sale. After a very brief discussion they quickly decided to sell, and Rosie, at 70 years old, retired.
Rosie joined the Oakland County Boat Club in 1977, and became an Honorary Life Member in 2002. She was very fond of music of the 30s and 40s, and anything Frank Sinatra crooned. In retirement, Rosie played Trivia, continued bowling on her league, traveled with friends, avoided most of her doctor's directives, and continually kicked Cliff's hiney at the cribbage table. She took new OCBC members under her wing, and taught them the fine art of closing the bar...Her libations of choice included Tequila Rose, margaritas and, most especially, Miller Lite. She always looked forward to Karaoke nights, especially when Larry and/or John would serenade her with Frank tunes!
Rosie loved her family and friends, and lived life with a passion we can all be inspired by. Please join us on Sunday, August 16, 2015, from 1:00pm until 6:00 pm, at the Oakland County Boat Club on Sylvan Lake, to celebrate Rosie’s life. Rosie requested a 1930’s Dance Hall Theme, and, please, No Black Attire Allowed!

Rosie's Motto
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming:
WOW! WHAT A RIDE!
