Sandra Lillian Wakula-Calderon

Sandy was a woman whose personality could fill a room. Sassy, charismatic, loyal, and wonderfully stubborn, she was a true social butterfly who genuinely loved being around people. She had an infectious laugh, a joyful spirit, and a way of making those around her feel welcomed. Whether she was out shopping, enjoying dinner with friends and family, or simply sharing a cocktail and a good conversation, Sandy knew how to enjoy life.

She was the beloved wife of the late Fred Calderon and the loving mother of Brooke (Paul Bouchard) Santa Maria, Fred Calderon, and the late Dennis Wakula. Cherished grandmother of Tyler. Sandy was the dear sister of Dennis (the late Karen) Wakula, and half-sister of Sharon (Gary) Houser and Laurie Wakula. Cherished aunt to Allison Wakula, Bradam (Nicole) Wakula, Casey (Ann Marie) Wakula, and Adam (Noel) Wakula, and niece of Lorraine. She also leaves behind great nieces and nephews, family members and friends. Sandy was preceded in passing by her parents, Joseph (Helen) Wakula and Deloris Wakula, and her aunt, Lorraine Lewandowski.

Sandy also treasured the friendships she made throughout her life, including her special friendship with Gloria, Monique, Doreen, and Sandy. Her family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Donell Storball and Melanie for their kindness, care, and support.

Sandy loved to shop—and those who knew her knew that shopping was more than an occasional pastime. She enjoyed going out, having cocktails, and relaxing with her favorite Franzia boxed wine. She especially loved Mexican, Greek, and Italian food and was always happy to enjoy a good meal out.

For a time, Sandy owned a bar, Smetanas, a role perfectly suited to her outgoing personality and love of people. Her customers became an important part of her life, and she truly cherished the relationships she formed with them. Sandy had a gift for conversation and connection; strangers had a way of becoming friends in her presence.

Above all, Sandy will be remembered for being unmistakably herself. She was sassy and spirited, loving and loyal, stubborn when she wanted to be, and always ready to laugh. Her larger-than-life personality, infectious laughter, and love for the people around her created memories that will continue to bring smiles to those who knew and loved her.

Though Sandy’s presence will be deeply missed, the laughter she shared, the friendships she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

May Sandy’s memory always bring a smile, a good story, and perhaps a toast in her honor.
