Talmadge Jackson Stewart (TJ), passed away in peace Friday, July 12, 2019, at the age of 85. TJ was born to Tommie and Carrie Stewart in Soperton, Georgia in 1933. In 1953, TJ enlisted into the US Army and served as an Infantryman in the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and completed a tour of duty in the Korean Peninsula. He transitioned into the Air Defense Artillery (ADA) and completed 2 combat tours in Vietnam. TJ was hand picked by his command group to attend the Warrant Officer Candidate School and he graduated with honors. He served as an Air Defense Artillery Chief Warrant Officer with Bravo Battery, S&F Battalion, School Support Brigade, Fort Bliss, Texas until his retirement in 1973. TJ continued his service by becoming a GS-12 Chaparral and Hawk Missile Systems Technician at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was instrumental in developing and writing the technical manuals for the Hawk Missile System used in the School Support Brigade. He is survived by his wife of more than four decades, Graciela; his daughter, Fabiola; his step-children, Ricardo, Hector, Cynthia and Ruby; and his children from his first marriage, Michael, Patricia, Robert, Dawn, Debbie, Mary (deceased), and Deanna (deceased), along with many, many grandchildren.
TJ will forever be remembered by family for his generosity, gentle demeanor, his love of dogs, squirrels, and birds. He was an avid motorcyclist, enjoyed a good game of poker, and the occasional trip to play the slots at a casino. He was a proud patriot and a humble man of God.
A celebration of life service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, Harker Heights, Texas on July 20, 2019 at 1:00 in the afternoon. Flowers can be sent to the church and/or cash donations can be made to the Harker Heights Animal Shelter.
