Bernadette López Canales, 53, of Killeen, Texas, passed away on October 9, 2021, in Killeen, Texas holding both of her children’s hands.

Bernadette was loved dearly, is missed terribly, and will always be cherished. Our “Nana,” as she was called by her grandchildren, was an amazing mom, grandmother, and maker of banana pudding like no other could be.

Bernadette was born in Artesia, NM on October 1, 1968. She went to Artesia High School and graduated in 1986. She was well known around Artesia as being athletic, kind and a friend to everyone. She achieved multiple awards and honors during her time as a Bulldog. Bernadette married Ricardo Canales in 1986 and together they had two children Ricardo Jr. and Brittanie. Bernadette moved away after high school and had the opportunity to travel the world due to Ricardo’s military service.

Bernadette went on to obtain her Real Estate License and found so much joy in her career because she was able to help others.

She was a die-hard sports fan and the biggest supporter from the stands. You could hear Bernadette from miles away cheering harder than anyone else!

Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She took every opportunity to share them with the world. The three things that she never lacked were a camera to capture every moment, a listening ear and the world’s best advice.

Bernadette was a warrior who fought and beat cancer not once, but twice! She faced many struggles but kept fighting with grit and determination. ‘Fight song’ was her life song. Her strength and bravery are unmatched. Bernadette is survived by her children, Ricardo Jr. and Brittanie, whom she shared with Ricardo Canales and her grandchildren Jai’den and Cristiano. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Camilo and Lorenzita Sedillo, Juan and Maria López.

I will miss talking to you my friend! You were such an inspiration to me! When we met last in Killeen we talked about our younger years running track and going to track meets. We also talked about attending a Horns game, I am so sorry we weren’t able to do that! I am hoping that I can make that happen in your memory with Brittanie and Jai! Rest In Peace my friend, I will see you again in heaven with our father someday soon!! Love you!!

Bernie was an amazing loving Mother, Nana, and Wife! A beautiful woman inside and out. She gave good advise and always there to listen. I'm grateful for her always checking on mom and being there for us all. She will truly be missed! I know her, my Mom, Augie and the rest of our family are rejoicing, laughing, and watching over us all!

I meet Bernadette many years ago we both work at Walmart, she was always with good disposition to do her job and go above and behind, later on in life we both left Walmart and really we had a connection trough FB. I learned to love her grandkids as she always show so much love and their accomplishments with her friends, she share her fears and worries about her illness and this pandemic with me, as I share with her my sister's cancer she always had a kind word for me and gave me hope, loosing her it has been sad but I know she is just ahead of me and one day I will see her we both share the same faith about that, for now I will miss you my warrior and dear friend. Rest in peace in God's arms now ❤ 🙏

Bernadette was a colleague but also a close friend. I've never known anyone with a more tenacious spirit with the way she approached life, work, her health, and devotion to her family. She was like the Apostle Paul, finding acceptance and contentment regardless of her external circumstances, and she had more to overcome than most of us. God has wrapped His arms around her and healed her body completely, but I will miss her presence among us. My sincere condolences to the family ♥️
