Bessie Dequincey Dunn, lovingly known as Mom, was born on August 14, 1936, in Brinkley, Arkansas. She passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 89. Bessie was born to William Martin Williams and Bertha Mae Holloway, who preceded her in death.
Bessie was one of six children born during the hardship of the Great Depression. Only four survived into adulthood, and she ultimately became the last surviving sibling, having been preceded in death by all of them. Her childhood was marked by loss and resilience, including the passing of her mother when Bessie was just eight years old, an experience that shaped her strength and perseverance throughout her life.
On May 8, 1954, Bessie married Victor Neal Dunn. Their marriage lasted 33 years until Victor’s passing on November 30, 1987. A devoted military wife, Bessie supported her husband’s career as a soldier, embracing a life of constant movement and new experiences. She and her family lived overseas in France and Germany, and stateside in Washington, California, Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and Georgia. Though she spent many years traveling, her focus was always on home and family.
Together, Bessie and Victor raised seven children. Bessie devoted much of her life to caring for others, not only as a mother and grandmother, but also through her work as a home care provider and as a childcare worker at a bowling alley nursery. Her nurturing spirit and steady presence touched many lives.
In her quieter moments, Bessie enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and word searches. She had a deep love for country music, especially the classics, and never turned down her favorite treat, Blue Bell ice cream. Known for her wit and dry humor, she often made her family laugh with her quick remarks and the funny little things she did that became cherished memories.
She is survived by her seven children: Victor DeWayne Dunn, Vickie Denise Dunn, Pamela Diane Rials, Ronald Keith Dunn (Meg), Michael Shane Dunn, Kevin Neal Dunn (Kimberly), and Brian Kane Dunn. She also leaves behind a large and loving legacy of 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Bessie Dequincey Dunn will be remembered for her strength, devotion to family, sense of humor, and the deep love she carried for those around her. Her life was one of service, sacrifice, and unwavering resilience, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
