In Loving Memory of Bessie Voncile Herring

Bessie Voncile Herring joins her husband Hubert L Herring. She was born on June 13, 1939, at home in the small town of Greenville, Alabama. She grew up in a loving family. The Wards may not have had much, but what they lacked in material things, they made up for with an abundance of love. Bessie grew up alongside her four sisters, and their home was also a place where nieces and other family members were welcomed and cared for.

Family was always at the heart of Bessie’s life. She was affectionately known as Bonnie, and she spent much of her life caring for others. She didn’t just raise her three children—she also helped raise neighborhood children, loved and cared for her eight grandchildren, and cherished all thirteen of her great-grandchildren. To Bonnie, family was never limited to those who shared her last name. If you needed love, a helping hand, or a place at her table, you were family.

Bonnie had a special gift for making people feel welcome. She loved cooking and feeding others, and no one could walk through her door without being offered something to eat. It didn’t matter if it was Sunday supper or just an ordinary Tuesday—Bonnie believed you needed to eat something! Her kitchen was a place where people gathered, stories were shared, and memories were made.

She was a woman of many talents. There was not much Bonnie couldn’t do. Whether she was cooking for a large gathering, caring for her family, or making quilts with her own hands, she put love into everything she did. Her cooking and quilts were more than things she made—they were expressions of her love and a way of caring for the people around her.

Bonnie’s greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely. She taught her family the importance of taking care of one another, opening your home to others, and always making sure no one left hungry. Her kindness, strength, generosity, and love for family will live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone whose life she touched.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

Visitation will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 South Fort Hood Road, Killeen, TX 765421654, US, on August 11, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Graveside Service will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas 76542, on August 12, 2026, at 11:00 am.
