Bonnie went to school as she was expected to do, eventually graduating from Ord High School. While in school she learned to play the piano. She excelled in the vocal and music department where she accompanied the boy’s, the girl’s, and the mixed glee clubs. She also accompanied many soloists and instrumentalists. In her junior year she had the lead female role in the play. Bonnie was part of the Queen Court at the Burwell Rodeo, where her father worked as a rodeo hand.
After high school she continued with her education training to be a teacher. Her first teaching job allowed her first salary of $180.00 per month. Other jobs she did were with sales and working in the auto department for the State of Nebraska.
Two boys were born with her marriage to Loyd Hawthorne. One son was born with her marriage to Jim Weary. She lived in several towns and cities in Nebraska (Burwell, Ord, York, Lincoln and Fremont) before moving to Atlantic, Iowa, in 1966, where she and Jim purchased Ralph’s Super Value, later renamed Jim’s Super Value Store, on the west end of town. Where besides being co-owner, she did the books and okayed all the ordering!
Summers were spent at Lake Panorama in Panora, Iowa, and then retirement moves to Mountain Home, AR, Springfield, MO, and finally to Killeen, TX.
Bonnie resided at Indian Oak Living Center, Harker Heights, TX, at the time of her death at age 90 years, 9 months and 1 day.
Immediate family meeting Bonnie in heaven on November 12, 2019, were her son, Jay, who arrived there on November 3, 2013, and her husband, Jim, who arrived June 4, 2019.
Those still on earth, but Heaven bound one day are her sons, Ernie (LeAnn) Hawthorne and Paul (Terri) Hawthorne; grandchildren, Christa (Lloyd) Osborn, Christopher (Jennifer) Hawthorne, Bethany (Pau) Borjas, Jenna Hawthorne, Catherine (Joel) White and Michael Weary; great-grandchildren, Maya, Elijah, Jesse, Jayci, Uriah and Alenah.
Nothing would make Bonnie smile more than to hear from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing dominos and bridge, and watching a good baseball or football game on TV.
In 1973, Bonnie was “born-again”, having her name entered in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Bonnie’s bold conversation and desires of her heart were that ALL would be saved! Nothing would make her death sweeter than you accepting Jesus into your heart today if you haven’t already.
John3:3…Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:16…For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life!
Per Bonnie’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
