Brigitte was born on September 13, 1934, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, to August and Anna (Goetz) Wollenberg. She was the second of three children who blessed her parents’ marriage.
In 1957, in her hometown of Kaiserslautern, Brigitte met Louis William “Bill” Gordon, a soldier stationed there with the United States Army. Their love blossomed easily, and they were married on October 23, 1959. In October 1960, Brigitte left her homeland for Salem, Ohio, where Bill’s family welcomed her into their home while he was stationed in Vietnam. A lifelong lover of travel, she was fortunate to see many places during Bill’s military career.
On January 25, 1975, the family moved to Killeen, Texas, and after Bill’s retirement from the military. That October, they chose to make it their home. Brigitte lived in their home, filled with so many years of love and memories, until March 2026. Their marriage was blessed with two children, a son, Gary Louis, and a daughter, Theresa Louise. In 1977, the Gordon family joined Immanuel Lutheran Church, where Brigitte served in many roles and remained a faithful and devoted member of the congregation. She and Bill shared 37 beautiful years of marriage until his passing on January 10, 1997.
Brigitte was loved beyond measure, and she had a special gift for loving those around her right back. She always made time for the people in her life. Holidays were made sweeter by her famous spritz cookies and pizzelle waffles, which she baked and shared with great love. To all who knew her, she was a tender and caring Oma, a deeply cherished friend, and a humble servant of her church.
Brigitte was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, and her brother, Wolfgang. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary Gordon and Chris Anne Boman of Austin; her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Greg Quezada of Georgetown; her sister, Rosemarie Scarborough of Charleston, South Carolina; her sister-in-law, Elma J. Krauss of Salem, Ohio; her five grandchildren, Meredith Victoria-Anne Gordon Monroe, Anna Noelle Quezada, Trey Quezada, Justin Dyal and Marissa Southern; her six great-grandchildren, Chloe, Hannah, and Wyatt Monroe, Grayson Southern, Jackson Southern and Piper Anne Southern; and her nieces and nephews in Germany, South Carolina, Ohio, and Texas. She also leaves behind a treasured abundance of honorary family who enriched her life, and whose lives she enriched in return.
Brigitte will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband. A graveside service will be at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her life.
