BuRaye was born in Martha, OK on Jan. 4, 1927 to Herschel V. and Gladys Wheeler Copeland. She graduated from Mangum (OK) High School in 1944. On Jan. 15, 1945 she married Arthur S. McCann and they moved to Killeen where they lived for 35 years. After Arthur's death in 1980, she joined a square dance class and quickly grew to love this hobby. Through square dancing, in 1983 she met and married Wade Rayburn, who died in 1986. BuRaye was a Civil Service employee at Ft. Hood for many years and then worked at the VA Hospital in Temple before her retirement in 1987.
After retirement, BuRaye was able to indulge her love for travel. She made several cross-country trips with her brother and sister-in-law, Coy and Elaine Copeland. Each trip resulted in great memories of the fun, adventures, and misadventures they shared. She also traveled for several years with her niece, Cheryl Kartsonakis as Cheryl and her husband Dino performed concerts and made guest appearances at churches throughout the United States as well as several foreign countries, all while living in Branson, MO. In 1993 she moved to Pigeon Forge, TN where her nephew, Gary McSpadden had just opened a new music theater. There she worked in the box office, the gift shop, ran the spotlight, made costumes, and performed any other task that was necessary for the show. During the next few years she worked in several of the music theaters in Pigeon Forge, making good friends and great memories at each one. She loved crafting and her hobbies included quilting, Swedish weaving, painting and pottery making. Spending time with family was very important to her. In 2009 she moved to Haskell, OK.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn and husband Darvin Hoffman of Sevierville, TN; Marilynn Tucker of Haskell, OK; Ron and wife, Dorothy McCann of Nolanville; and Mike and wife, Viola McCann of Haskell, OK; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, her brother Coy and wife Elaine Copeland of Edmond, OK; 3 nieces; 2 nephews; and many friends.
