

Carol Jean Quinn Cowels passed from this life on February 4, 2025, in Austin, Texas with her husband, David; her daughter, Lisa; her granddaughter, Cassie; and her friend, Jose Avila, at her side. Carol was a devout Christian and a parishioner at St. Paul Chong Hasang Parish in Harker Heights, Texas.
Carol was born on December 14, 1942, in Port Arthur, Texas. She was from birth, “a Southern Belle”.
Carol is survived by her husband, David Cowels; her daughter, Lisa Stoner; her brother, Ken Sterzenbach; and her sister, Debbie Cowels. She is predeceased by her daughter, Leslie Thysell; her son, Robert Effenberger; her brothers, Lloyd and Sonny Quinn.
Carol was proud of her grandchildren: Barron Effenberger; Brian Stoner; Bradley Thysell; Mallory Thysell; Cassie Keigwin, and her great grandchildren: Steele and Stassi Stoner; and Aidan Thysell.
David was the love of her life! They were married in Killeen, Texas in a garden wedding on June 4, 2016. They enjoyed each other’s company and spent time together golfing; target shooting; playing dominos; and gardening, just to name a few of their hobbies.
In Carol’s earlier years, she was an athlete who loved softball. Later in life, she enjoyed volunteering as a coach for the local girls’ softball and volleyball teams. She was a renaissance woman; an academic; an avid reader; and a diverse painter.
The family is holding a visitation on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral service to celebrate Carol’s life at 10:00am at the Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 S.Fort Hood St. Killeen, TX.
