She lived her younger years in Belton and Killeen. She attended school in Belton and Killeen. Carolyn was a gifted musician playing the alto sax and bassoon in band.
Carolyn was a third-generation Texan, on her mother’s side of the family. Through the Walton lineage she had a relative that died in the Alamo.
She was an unforgettable person that brought warmth and smiles to everyone who knew her. Carolyn was a devoted daughter, protective oldest child to her younger siblings and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She put her heart into raising her five children, Rick, Stacy, Paula, Christy, and Jason. Her children were her greatest joy throughout her life and the team that she cheered loudest for.
To know Carolyn was to know her passion for cooking. She was an excellent cook and baker. Her kitchen was truly her kingdom. She had the latest and greatest kitchen pans and utensils. One of the family’s favorite meals was her homemade lasagna. Her cooking was a true expression of her love to please others. No one ever left her table hungry.
When she was not cooking or baking during football season, you would find her wearing a Dallas Cowboys football jersey. She always cheered and coached her favorite team from her recliner. She celebrated every touchdown with enthusiasm, and she knew the agony of defeat with her team too.
Carolyn loved to play games, especially cards and dominoes. She was very competitive and hated losing. She loved country music and she was an excellent dancer. She had a beautiful singing voice too.
Carolyn worked a variety of jobs during her lifetime, she was a waitress, a convenience store clerk, worked at the local telephone company, worked at a jewelry store and finally as a phlebotomist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and LaVerne Bailey and one grandson, Rusty Wayne Holcomb.
Carolyn is survived by her five children, Rick Holcomb of Olympia, Washington, Stacy Hector of Baltimore, Maryland, Paula Holcomb of Baytown, Texas, Christy Waddell of Whitney, Texas and Jason Holcomb of Olympia, Washington. She has thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Linda) Bailey of Killeen, her sister, Jean (Mark) O’Connor of Rockwall, Texas and her brother, Lynn of Killeen,
While our lives have changed without hearing her voice and not seeing her habit of winking at us, her spirit will remain when we watch a Dallas Cowboy game, every meal that we share, and every game we play in her honor.
We are comforted in knowing when we love someone, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind.
