

Killeen Police Detective Charles “Chuck” David Dinwiddie, 47, was killed in the line of duty while serving on the Killeen Police Department Swat Team, passing away on May 11, 2014. He was born on November 28, 1966 in Frankfurt, Germany to LTC (Ret) Richard and Patricia (Newcomb) Dinwiddie. As a child in a military family, he moved throughout the country, and after a four-year tour of duty in Hawaii, settled in Harker Heights, Texas. Charles attended Harker Heights Elementary, Manor Junior High School and graduated from Killeen High School in 1984. He attended Central Texas College in Killeen where he received a Associate Degree in Electronics and Computer Technology in 1990. Charles joined the Killeen Police Department in 1996 and served for 18 years, working in the Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigation Division, Crimes Against Property Section, Special Investigation Division and most recently, working undercover in the Special Missions Unit. He was a Field Training Officer, a member of the Bicycle Unit, the Tactical Response Unit, and the Department’s Honor Guard. He was a Master Operator with the SWAT Team, on which he served for 15 years. He was the recipient of the 14-year Safe Driving Award,15-year Service Award and earned a Master Peace Officer Certification. In 2009, he was awarded the Post 223 American Legion’s Officer of the Year.
Charles was a shining example of a Christian husband, son, father, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. He grew up in the Catholic Church and later attended First Baptist Church, Killeen. Charles married Holly Trigo in 1992. Their 22-year marriage was filled with joy and laughter, with countless precious family moments. He unselfishly gave of himself, investing time and energy in his children, spending time with his extended family and always helping others. His sense of humor, as well as his legendary ability to repair all things mechanical, were gifts often bestowed on family, friends and co-workers alike. Charles’ upbeat and engaging manner made him a favorite of his family, his colleagues, and all who knew him. His presence will be sorely missed.
Charles is survived by his wife, Holly (Trigo) Dinwiddie of Harker Heights, Texas; his son Colin and daughter Chloe; parents Richard and Patricia Dinwiddie of Harker Heights, Texas; mother-in-law Judy Trigo of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother Richard Dinwiddie Jr. (Ramona) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister Catherine Malicki (Rick) of Harker Heights,Texas; sister Jayne Greer (Milton) of Dallas, Texas; brother Thomas Dinwiddie of Harker Heights, Texas; sister Ellen Dinwiddie Smith (Mark) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and brother-in-law Myles (Kelley)Trigo of Ft. Worth, Texas. Nephews and nieces: Garreth Regazzi, Chrystal Malicki, Heather Malicki, Joshua (Melissa) Greer, Annie Greer, Catherine Greer, Alexander Smith, Noah Smith, Jake Trigo, Katie Trigo, Isaac Trigo and Maggie Trigo.
A visitation will be held from 6-8pm at First Baptist Church, Killeen, 3310 South W.S. Young Drive, Killeen, Texas. A funeral service will be led by Dr. Randall Wallace at the Killeen Civic Center located at 3601 S. W.S. Young in Killeen on May 17th, 2014 at 10am and burial will immediately follow at Killeen City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.
