Christel Wilson died Friday, March 11, 2011 in a local hospital after a short illness. Services will be 1pm Monday, March 14, 2011 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel followed by graveside services at the Crawford Cemetery at 3:00pm. Officiating will be Dr. Jim Ellor. Visitation will be 4-6pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
Christel Wilson was born October 5, 1924 in Bad Honningen, Germany to Gottfried and Elisabeth Stieffenhofer Boden. She married the love of her life, Desmond William (Bill) Wilson, in 1952. Two children were born to this union, Helen Wilson Harris and Andy Wilson.
Christel Wilson completed school in Bad Honningen, Germany and completed training then to become a “haushalthelferin”, household help for families dealing with illness. During the Second World War she was sent to serve as a helper at a farm and later worked at a factory making first aid kits. She worked hard all of her life helping support the family through her sewing, knitting and macramé. Eventually she opened her own ceramics business, Ceramic World, which she ran successfully for ten years before retiring.
Helping others was her avocation. She quietly and without herald gave of herself and her means to anyone in need. Christel loved to have fun. She enjoyed square dancing in Germany and in Killeen. She was an active member of the Liederkranz, German ladies’ singing group. She enjoyed being with her Germany lady friends and talking in rapid fire mixture of German and English. Chris Wilson had a great sense of humor, strongly held opinions, strong work ethic, love of reading, music, travel, and flowers.
Christel Wilson is survived by her husband, Bill Wilson, and three children, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of friends. Her children include Andy Wilson and his wife Carmen, daughter Tammy Moore her children MacKenzie, LJ, and Ty, and daughter Tracy Soto and her husband Jorge and their children Alexis and Nicolas; Armin Weissenfels and his wife Patti and children Hannah, Tobias, Carsten and Fritzi; and Helen Wilson Harris and her husband Don Harris and their daughter Beth and their son Daniel and his wife and children Stephanie, Sophia and Nikolai.
She loved flowers. So, if you want to honor her, send flowers to someone you love, someone who can enjoy them now.
