Cecil (C.L.) Davis was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 25, 1937 to Harvey LeRoy and Leona Elizabeth Davis. He attended and graduated from Lawrence High School in Lawrence, KS. C.L. attended Oklahoma Christian College prior to joining the U.S. Army in 1956.
In 1958, C.L. married Clara E. Mathis in Des Moines, Iowa.
Throughout his 20 year military career, C.L. served two tours in Vietnam, a tour in Thailand and served as an instructor of aviation maintenance at Ft. Eustis, VA. Prior to retiring at Ft. Campbell, KY in 1976, C.L. had earned the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 campaign stars, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Aircraft Crewman Badge, 3 oversea Service Bars and Good Conduct Medal 6 times.
He married Darla K. Barnett in 1981 in Belton, TX. C.L. fathered 5 children, Stephen Wayne, Rhonda Elaine, Donna Danean, Jeremiah Eugene and Michelle Renee.
After his retirement, C.L. attended Central Texas College and studied telecommunications and was the afternoon host at KNCT FM for 8 years. He went on to be the newsman for KOOV in Copperas Cove, TX for a short time, followed by several years working for KISD as an ISS director at Brookhaven Elementary School before retiring.
C.L. enjoyed music, watching sci-fi shows and movies, golf, but most importantly surrounded himself in the spirit of God, and took a great devotion to spreading His word. He was a prayer warrior and during his retirement maintained prayer request email ministries for both Elaine Pettit Ministries, of Kalamazoo, MI and Killeen First Church of the Nazarene. He also drove the chase vehicle for the Priesthood Motorcycle Ministry.
Cecil L. Davis is preceded in death by both parents and survived by his wife, Darla Davis, former wife Clara Frost of Copperas Cove, TX, his sister Shirley and her husband Tommy Rathbone of Broken Arrow, OK, and 5 children, Stephen Wayne Davis and wife Karen of Edmond, OK, Rhonda Elaine Miller of Killeen, TX, Donna Danean and husband Les Hines of Killeen, TX, Jeremy Eugene Davis and wife Tina of Killeen, TX, Michelle Renee Evans and husband Anthony of Killeen, TX, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
C.L.’s best wishes for those he loves is that they love the Lord with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength and Always Remember and Don’t Ever Forget (ARDEF) that Gpa loves you.
