He attended Marion Walthall School and Tylertown High School graduating in 1961. During his high school years, he had many odd jobs. During the time of the draft, Cloy was on the list. He immediately signed up and became a member of the US Air Force.
Cloy's days in the Air Force were spent in Mississippi. Cloy's older brother, Dudley, was also in the Air Force and he kept a watchful eye on Cloy. He learned a lot from the Air Force that helped in his civilian life.
After the Air Force, Cloy got a job with ITT a telephone company. Later he worked with Mid Tex, who changed their name to Centel. During this time, he was known as "Pat" or "Packwood". After years on the job, Pat retired due to a back injury but he continued his membership with the Telephone Legends Club. This is how he kept in touch with the friends he made while working. He made it a point to go each year.
Pat was a mover and a shaker. He was always doing something. After retiring from Centel, he and several friends bought a bar in Harker Heights. It was called The Waterhole.
Also, Pat decided to use his experience in telephone systems and he and his best friend, Jim Cater of 40 years started a business selling parts needed to fix these systems. He did this for years and was very successful. In 1995, Pat started a whole new business with Ronnie Jones. This business was a car lot called The Motor Pool located in Killeen and Copperas Cove.
He was respected by people because he showed them the same. He was a terrific businessman and person. He was always combing his beautiful silver hair. He loved to be outside mowing the grass or down at the hanger listening to it rain on his metal roof or cutting down trees. He loved riding around on his golf cart shooting turtles at the pond or killing ants in the pasture. He loved to watch the deer in the pasture.
He will be missed.
