This is how I always remember Daniel. That smile, always finding an opportunity to smile like this every time my husband Keith and I met Daniel and Joyce for dinner. I loved that smile, still do.
Matthew 25:21 ESV
[21] His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

The Army Navy game will never be the same for me, Daniel, but I know you'll always root for Army. Go Army, Beat Navy!

Love ya, brother!

Veterans Day will never again be the same without Daniel. Love ya, brother!

Daniel was a character sometimes, but his overall purpose never wavered. He was a devotee of Jesus Christ first, last and always and he made it his personal mission (The Great Commission!) to reach as many people as he could for Christ.

Daniel and I used to take each other out for lunch for our birthdays. This particular time was my birthday several years ago. We went to our local Subway. We ordered our food and sat down. I was eating my sub sandwich when two other people walked into the subway and began conversing with the people behind the counter. I barely noticed them. Daniel, however, eyed them with interest.

The two seemed to know the people behind the counter and started a conversation with each other. Daniel listened intently.

After about five minutes, Daniel in a very loud voice because he couldn't hear very well said, "Oh! So that's how it is around here! You'll talk with them but won't talk with us. We're not good enough even though we were here first! I see how it is!"

I wanted the floor to open up and for me to fall through it. I was completely embarrassed, but also too much in shock to tell Daniel to shut up which I desperately wanted to do.

Daniel persisted. "We were here first, but you didn't talk to us. I guess we're just not good enough, are we?!"

The people behind the counter asked if they could help him. Daniel once more persisted, "You didn't talk to us, but you talked to them. We were here first!"

By this time, all eyes were on Daniel and I. The people behind the counter apologized and asked what Daniel wanted to talk about. Right then, Daniel says, "I'm just kiddin' ya! My name's Daniel Bicknell. This is my friend Keith Lindsey. I'm takin' him out for lunch for his birthday. We're both old soldiers. What's your names?"

He concluded the conversation by asking them if they knew Jesus and told them we'd pray for them.

I miss you, Daniel. RIP, brother! I love you! I always will!

Danny--your playfulness at experiencing our winter snow, so rare for a California born guy. So thankful for the times you and Tom were able to spend as adults, brothers.
