

Killeen- Funeral services with full military honors for David J. Nicholson, 56, of Killeen, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. Father Don Legge Scott & White Hospice Chaplain will officiate. Burial will follow in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Mr. Nicholson passed away Saturday at a Temple nursing home.
David John was born May 15, 1954 in Highland Park, Michigan to John and Helen Marlene (Bartley) Nicholson.
He graduated High School in San Dimas, California. David married Waltraud Gertrud Heinrich on June 10, 1976 in Aschaffenburg, Germany and has lived in this area since 1990.
David retired from the US Army in 1992 after more than 20 years of service. Among his medals he received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon Numeral 3, Expert Infantryman Badge, Badge Rifle, National Defense Service Medal with 1 service star. After retirement from the military, he began his teaching career. He taught sixth grade at Manor Middle School in Killeen from 1992 to 2010.
Mr. Nicholson was preceded in death by his wife on March 24, 2008.
Survivors include his daughter, Sabrina Waltraud Nicholson of Killeen, a brother, Steven Nicholson of Wisconsin, two sisters, Marlene Rodgers of Wisconsin and Joan Allen of Oregon, his father, John Nicholson of Wisconsin.
A time of visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday evening at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
