Mr. Warren died Oct. 23, 2010. He was born July 21, 1933, in Coryell County.
Mr. Warren graduated as valedictorian of Fort Hood High School in 1951. He married Gilda B. Montgomery in 1954 and served 11 years in the U.S. Air Force, in Vietnam and with the Strategic Air Command as a navigator, retiring as a captain. After earning a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M in 1970, he returned to service in the U.S. Army, where he completed a master's degree in Public Health and served in the Veterinary Corps.
After retiring as a major in 1978, he began a private veterinary practice in Duncanville that flourished until he retired in 1998. Mr. Warren was active in the Duncanville community, particularly in the Lions Club and serving on the city council for one year. Called to return to service, he served in Desert Storm in 1991.
Continually active in public health, he worked for the city of Duncanville and the city of Garland Health Departments. He was appointed an American Veterinary Medical Association Congressional Science Fellow in 1996-97, where he served on the staff of Congressman Charles Stenholm. In 1997-98, Mr. Warren consulted to the research staff at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Survivors include his wife, Gilda; daughter, Kerin Levy; sons, Perin and Derin; grandchildren, Madeleine Moehling, Alice Warren, Nathan Warren and Brandon Warren; sisters, Kathi Hustedt and La Juana Leus; brothers, Kevin and Louis.
Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Lawrence Warren; brothers, Larry and Russell; and a sister, Jani.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
