Funeral services for Dorothea Allbright, 79, of Killeen will be 2:00pm Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. Dorothea passed away June 4, 2011 in Temple, Texas. The family will receive guests for a time of visitation Tuesday, June 7, 2011 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
Born Dorothea Späth on January 14, 1932 in Radldorf, Germany to Alois Spath and Therese Eisenmann. Married Dudley Ray Allbright on June 11, 1957. Immigrated to the United States in 1958. Mother of six children, 4 daughters and 2 sons.
Mrs. Allbright was a self-professed home maker, devoted wife and mother and took pride in the fact that everyone that knew her knew that her responsibilities as a mother and wife came first. She was completely dedicated to raising her six children and taking care of her home and her husband. She had a typical German work ethic and anyone that knew her could instantly tell you what a hard-working person she was. She was a very stubborn, strong-willed person of integrity and would do anything she could for anyone. She also took pride in being a fabulous cook. Everyone that knew her would relish in her delicious cooking and always wondered what she had done to make everything taste so good. In the kitchen, just as elsewhere in the home, Dorothea always seemed to have a magical touch.
She loved gardening and loved to be outside, mowing the lawn even into her 70’s. Her hard work and attention to immaculate detail was something that she tried incessantly to instill into her children. She was raised a Catholic in Germany as a child, and continued her faith up until the end of her life. If anyone ever asked her what her hobbies were, she usually replied “cooking and cleaning”. She was a consummate cook, mother and wife.
Dorothea is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include daughters Irma Henderson, Carol Plant, Joann Abraham, and Delores Frasier; sons Steve and Franklin Allbright; eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
