Dorothy Maria "Dee" Hess made her final transition into heaven on June 18, 2026. While our hearts are heavy with her loss, we find comfort in knowing she is reunited with the love of her life and resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord.
Born on October 28, 1942, raised in Germany, Dorothy was known for her strong spirit, unwavering faith, and unforgettable personality. In 1973, she immigrated to the United States, beginning a journey that would take her through several states before ultimately making it to Austin, Texas. It was there that she met Edward Hess, the love of her life. Together, they shared more than 35 years of love, travel, and adventure. In time, they settled in Florence, Texas, where they spent their final decade side by side.
Dorothy was unique, opinionated, and unapologetically herself. Whether she was sewing something by hand, hunting for the best bargain in town, or catching up on her favorite soap operas, she found joy in the simple routines. Dorothy never hesitated to share her thoughts or offer advice, and her wit, honesty, and unmistakable personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. In the later years of her life, her faith became an increasingly important source of comfort and strength. She loved the Lord deeply, found peace in prayer, and drew encouragement from her relationship with Him.
She is survived by her children, Angela (Joe) Sapien, Wilson (Johanna) Bradley, Raphale Hagele, and Armin Hagele; her grandchildren, Joe Sapien III, Gabriella (Todd) Westbrook, Melina Genter, Rebecca Janes, Lukas Genter, David Jahn, Jamina Mestermann, Hannah Bradley, and Hazel Bradley; and her great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Madilyn, Easton, and Leela. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Hess, and her parents.
Rest in peace, Dorothy. Your life was uniquely your own, and your memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 South Fort Hood Road, Killeen, TX, on June 24, 2026, beginning at 11:00 am. A Funeral Service will follow at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home at noon.
