Dorothy Jane Roberts Levy went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 20, 2014 at the age of 98. She is the eldest daughter of Walter Olan Roberts and Agnes Murphy Roberts. Preceding in death are both of her parents, two younger sisters; Mattie Wilmuth Hix and Virginia Elizabeth Young, a great-grandson, Jared Wayne Stubblefield, a son-in-law, Gaylon Wayne Christie and her husband of 43 years, Jack Doward Levy.
Her loving daughter, Jacqueline Jane Levy Christie, who was her constant companion, friend, travel partner and caretaker, survives Dorothy. Her three granddaughters, Michele Christie Jaeger, Denise Christie Martin and Julie Christie Hagey, also survive “Grandma”.
The seven great-grandchildren left to cherish precious memories are; Amanda Michele Martin, Julia Nicole Martin, Kathyrn Jane Martin, Christina Lynn Hagey, Robert Joseph Hagey III, Clayton Matthew Hagey, and Robert Tyler Stubblefield. Also included are two nieces, Autumn Hix Hawes and Judy Hix Geissen, and two nephews Sharp Olan Young and James Doward Hix.
Dorothy was born on March 17, 1916. She was a 1932 graduate of Killeen High School on Ave D. She attended community college in Port Arthur for one year and returned to Killeen to marry Jack Levy in 1934. Dorothy found great joy in cooking, making a house a home and working in her flower garden. She played bridge with friends weekly, cherished her trips to Colorado to the Kern’s cabin, special travels alone with her daughter Jane and with the whole family and friends.
Dorothy spent her life devoted to her husband, daughter, granddaughters and great–grand children. Her life was focused on her family, which was unquestionably her main priority. Many Sunday dinners, holidays and birthdays are fondly remembered at her small, cozy house on Sunny Lane. Not only did Grandma love her family, but also it wasn’t uncommon for her to have others who loved her as much and referred to her as “Grandma Levy.”
Before her health started to decline, she would rarely be absent from any event involving a family member and while she was outwardly a quiet person there was no greater cheerleader-encourager than our grandma!
Dorothy Jane Levy has left this world to dwell in a far better place. We are comforted by our faith in the Lord through our Savior Jesus Christ who teaches us that in Him there are no good-byes, in Him there is no end.
Visitation will take place at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen on Sunday, June 22 from 2-4 pm.
Services to be held at Lifeway Fellowship on Monday, June 23 at 11 am with graveside services to follow at Killeen Cemetery.
