Born March 24, 1926 in Florence, Tx to Elzie and Bertha Fisher, Dorothy Mae Fisher was the youngest of 5, with 4 big brothers, Gleo “Pat” Fisher, Emzie Lee Fisher, Jesse Grant Fisher, Robert Elzie Fisher all preceding her in death.
Dorothy was a proud member of the first graduating class of the Georgetown Licensed Vocational Nursing School of 1961 under Dr. Douglas Benold.
Dorothy or “Dot” as her family fondly referred to her, married Wade Sauls, August 29, 1964 in Reno, Nevada and they spent their years together living beside the beautiful hills of Fremont, California where Dorothy worked as a nurse until her retirement at the age of 62. She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, donating to many charitable organizations, and visits with her cousin, Freddie in San Jose. She made yearly trips back to Texas driving and flying home for her family reunion and wonderful visits. Dorothy was a faithful member of the church of Christ in Fremont until her departure in 2020 when she came back to Texas under the care of her niece, Beverly, after a serious health event. Her sharp memory remained intact until the end, as did her love of sweets and snacks.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Wade, her parents, and brothers. She is survived by her step-son, Stephen Sauls and wife Pam, 3 granddaughters, her sister-in-law Lucille Fisher of Houston, TX and a hosts of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Rosewood Nursing Home Staff for the care and concern for Dorothy during her short time there.
A Memorial Service for Dorothy will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 from 10:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 South Fort Hood Road, Killeen, TX 76542. A Committal Service will be prior to the memorial at 9:00 AM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542.
