Eddie Dewing Pilgram, who was 59 years old, died peacefully at his home in Killeen, Texas, on March 1st, surrounded by his family. Eddie battled a seven year-fight with cancer until he received his heavenly reward and entered the presence of God.
Eddie was born on October 17, 1963, to Lee Bell Pilgram in Mark, Mississippi. He is survived by three sons and two daughters, Kenneth (Doris) of Milwaukee, WI, Bennie, Syrknoreon, and Bella of Killeen Texas, and LeCricia (Ernest) of Brandon, England. He also has nine siblings, Octavia (Willie), Shenell (Tommie), Reggie (Tiffany), Carnell, Gregory, Albert, Kevin, Lashay, and Lionel. Preceding him in death was his brother Reveal. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, grandkids, nieces, and nephews.
Eddie was very proud to serve his country in the Army during the Gulf War. During his tour as an infantryman, he learned tough love, discipline, and determination, serving him throughout his lifetime. He poured these same principles into others with motivational speeches usually ending with his boisterous laugh. After retiring from the Army, Eddie devoted his time to teaching students, starting off as a second-grade teacher educating at Peebles Elementary before transitioning to Ira Cross Junior Elementary as the Vice Principle. He retired from the Killeen Independent School District in June of 2022, leaving a dynamic impact on students, teachers, and staff.
Eddie’s love for education started early in life when he graduated from Marshall High School. After graduating, he began his military career in the army. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of General Studies from William Carey College, Hattiesburg, MS in August of 2001. Eddie also graduated from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Tx with his Master of Education in December 2004.
When Eddie wasn’t teaching, you could find him sparring in a chess match, watching a western movie, or trying out a new recipe to impress his family and friends. His legacy will live on through all of those who loved him, knew him, and was encouraged by him.
