Funeral services for Elrita Ann McQueen, 84, of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen. Burial will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Mrs. McQueen died Aug. 30, 2013, after a brief illness in Seton Medical Center Harker Heights.
She was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Westphalia, to Godfrey W. and Elenora E. (Niehues) Hoelscher.
Mrs. McQueen was a graduate of Temple High School in June 1947, and married James H. McQueen Jr. on Jan. 19, 1949. The U.S. Navy took the newlyweds to Florida to start out married life. Mr. and Mrs. McQueen moved back to Temple and started their family.
In 1964, the McQueens moved to northeast Killeen, where they have lived ever since. Mrs. McQueen was the shop and bookkeeper, and part owner for McQueen’s Repair Shop from 1964 until 1994. In later years, Mrs. McQueen and her husband operated a food trailer and a motor home, and went from festival to festival throughout Texas.
She loved people, and she loved to travel and see the sights. Mrs. McQueen spent her later years taking care of her husband, sharing and participating in the lives of her family, and looking after her house and her yard.
A special thank you and appreciation must be given to those at the Seton Medical Center Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit personnel. The doctors, nurses and hospital personnel who took care of Elrita and watch over our family are forever grateful for the kindness, caring, courtesy, professionalism, and expertise shown to all during this difficult time.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Webb; her brother, Clifford Hoelscher; and her daughter-in-law, Priscilla McQueen.
Survivors include Mrs. McQueen’s loving husband of 64 years, JH McQueen Jr.; her son, Gary McQueen, of Killeen; a daughter, Sharon Dubois and her husband, George, of Phelan, Calif.; a son, Dennis McQueen, of Killeen; a daughter, Nancy Petrino and her husband, Russell, of Deer Park; a daughter, Michelle Robison and her husband, Nathan, of Toney, Ala., nine grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, sisters Mary Pascal Hoelscher of Houston, Jane Moeller of Temple, Betty Lewis of Little River, Marcella Brown of Benbrook, and Shirley Burk of Temple, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen.
