Emogene “Jean” Ann Ross of Killeen, Texas passed on Monday, December 9, 2019, in Cedar Park, Texas surrounded by family after a long-fought battle with lung cancer. She was a devoted mother who treasured her family first and foremost. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church for 33 years and her faith and love of God were strong. She was always at peace and never worried—saying “It was in God’s hands”.
When thinking about Jean, we will always remember her compassion, her kindness, and her loyalty. To know her once is to like her always. Her humble heart will be deeply missed by all. Spending time with her children and grandchildren filled her heart with JOY and were her happiest times. She loved sitting at her kitchen table where she was always working on a crossword puzzle or doing the Jumble, drinking her coffee, and watching the hummingbirds. We know she is smiling from above about what a great view she has now.
Jean was retired from Killeen I.S.D where she was a cook at Sugar Loaf Elementary for 26 years. She enjoyed seeing the kids as they came through the line. She worked for 19 years on the weekends at Piccadilly Cafeteria. She loved the people she encountered and would share many stories with the family. She had a love for pets and many people entrusted her to care for their “fur” babies because of her nurturing and loving nature.
Jean was preceded in death by her mom (Ruth), her brother (Billy), and her sister (Virginia). She is survived by her two daughters – Sherry Mathews (Mike) of Killeen and Michele Ross of Cedar Park—and three grandchildren – Christopher Mathews (Melinda) of Killeen, Steven Mathews (Leslie) of England, and Amanda Mathews of Killeen. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Killeen. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in her name.
