Ethel Beatrice (Becky) Stayton Riemensnider passed away peacefully on February 14, 2016 at her home at the Meridian Temple. At her bedside were her two devoted children Donald Max Riemensnider and Linda Lee Goode. Becky was predeceased by her husband, Max, (2003) after 61 years of marriage.
Born June 8, 1923 in Boise City, Oklahoma, Becky married Max Riemensnider after she graduated from Pueblo, Colorado High School and they moved immediately to California where Max was in the U.S. Army Basic Training Program. Upon Max being sent to Europe at the beginning of WWII, Becky returned to Fountain, Colorado to live with his family. Their son, Donnie, was four when he met his father for the first time; their daughter, Linda, was born soon after his return.
Becky and Max were stationed in Colorado, Arizona, California, Alaskan, Louisiana, and finally Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. While in DeRidder, Louisiana, Becky began her work life with Sears, Roebuck & Co. and was able to transfer to the Sears in Killeen. Becky and her children remained in Killeen while Max served several tours overseas and thus, she retired from Sears as Manager of the Credit Department after 20 year illustrious career with the company.
Becky loved the creative arts. She especially enjoyed working in ceramics and oil painting. Anything that was considered an art activity she dabbled in it. And Becky was always up for a bridge game! After she and Max retired, they enjoyed their house at Lake Buchannan, fishing, hosting fish fries, playing cards and board games and always having family reunions. Becky especially loved spending time with her three grandchildren. She devoted many summers at the lake to teaching them to fish and play cards.
After Max’s death in 2003, Becky moved to the Meridian Temple where she began a new chapter in her life. She made many new friends and enjoyed a full social life that included luncheon engagements, bridge games, skip-bo and various other new activate. Becky’s family extends their gratitude to the residents and staff at the Meridian Temple for their friendship, loving care, attentiveness, and for keeping Becky close to their hearts.
Predeceased by sister, Bernice Mikileick, and her brother, Connie Stayton, Becky is survived by her two children, Donald Max Riemensnider and wife Lucy of Boerne; Linda Lee Goode and husband John Paul of Harker Heights; three grandchildren, Erick Riemensnider and wife Stephanie of San Antonio; Lisa Smith and husband Jack of Seguin; and Paul William Goode and wife, Samantha of Dallas; and three great-grandchildren, Avery and Brook Brown, and William Jay Goode.
The family will greet visitors on Wednesday, February 17th at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 South Fort Hood Street, Killeen, TX from 5-7pm followed by a graveside service on Thursday, February 18th at 10:30am at the Killeen City Cemetery, 2800 East Rancier. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Lung Association Texas, 8207 Callaghan Road, Suite 140, San Antonio, TX 78230 or the charity of your choice.
