Eveline Mueller Flores, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend entered into eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and devotion. Eveline (known as Eva to her friends) was born on September 24, 1941, in Bamberg, Germany during the height of World War II. Eva enjoyed telling her family stories of her childhood- she would reminisce on times spent swimming in the river, learning to cook, and running around town with her siblings and friends.
In 1960, a fateful meeting forever changed her life when she caught the eye of a young, handsome United States Army soldier, Jose Flores. Knowing instantly that she was the one, Jose declared to a fellow soldier that he would marry her. He held fast to that promise and to her hand for the next sixty-six years. They were wed in Germany, where they welcomed their first two sons, Walter and Simon. Jose’s military service eventually brought the young family to the United States, where they were blessed with two more sons, David, born at Fort Hood, Texas, and Raymond, born at Fort Benning, Georgia. Together, Eva and Jose established a firm foundation of love, discipline, and unity that would guide their family for decades to come.
After traveling to Germany, Georgia, and Texas multiple times, the Flores Family settled down in Harker Heights, TX in 1978. There, Jose and Eva watched their sons grew up, start their careers, marry, establish families of their own, ultimately blessing her with six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Among her many titles, “Grandma” was one of her favorites.
Eva maintained and ran the type of house where love, order, and cleanliness were expected. As she said “we may be poor but we don’t have to be dirty”. Growing up poor in Germany, Eva learned how to make a “Mark” stretch further than thought possible. She continued to apply this to the rest of her life raising four growing boys on a soldier's pay in the 60's, 70's and 80’s.
One of Eva’s proudest moments was in 1974 when she became a US citizen. She studied and learned about the US government, and after successfully completing her examination, she was sworn in as a US citizen in San Antonio, Texas.
She worked outside of the home for a short period of time, but her passion was her work within the home, and sharing her gift of hospitality with all she met. She regularly prepared German cuisine and quickly learned American and Mexican dishes after coming to America. Whenever you were invited to share a meal at “Grandma’s House,” you could count on it being a great meal, no matter what. Cooking, baking, and feeding others was Eva’s love language. At every opportunity to say “Thank you” to someone, there was food of some sort. Red cabbage, cucumber salad, potato balls, schnitzels, rouladen, menudo, tamales, tortillas, cakes or any other dish- all she made with love.
One of her most well-known contributions to the surrounding community for the past 40 plus years is her German cheesecake. This cheesecake has aided in so many projects getting completed and “lubing gears” of many organizations. We can’t begin to count the number of cheesecakes baked in her oven. Only the Lord knows and has blessed them all through her love.
Eva is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Jose Flores, of Ingleside, Texas; her sons Walter (Debbie) Flores of Jacksonville, NC, Simon (Rinska) Flores of Harker Heights TX, David (Cheryl) Flores of Harker Heights TX, and Raymond Flores of Owatonna, MN; her grandchildren Alexis (Jared) Brooks, Joshua (Mikala) Flores, Michael Flores, Joseph Flores, Jake (Katie) Flores, and Shannon Flores; and great-grandchildren Josslyn, Joseph, Alora, and Phoebe. Evelyn is preceded in death by her father, Adam Mueller, her mother, Josephine Mueller, and her dear brothers and sisters.
A mass will be held at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church (1000 E FM 2410 Rd, Harker Heights, TX 76548) on July 18th, 2026, at 11 a.m. The family invites all who knew her to attend.
